In addition to the national and regional parks there is also in Tuscany a great heritage of historic gardens where you can admire rare plants, statues, and fountains and of course the great villas they surround.

Florence is a very green city, though not always apparent. In fact, from a bird’s eye view of the city reveals many small and several large hidden, private gardens.

Public parks and gardens include the Boboli gardens and il parco delle Cascine (Cascine park).

In the 19th century parks like the Cascine had two functions.

The first was in adding natural beauty to the urban landscape, while the second was in creating healthy open spaces where townspeople could promenade and where children could play.

The Torrigiani Garden, the Corsini Garden and the Botanic Garden are some of the most renowned gardens in Florence.
