ICE CREAM

Ice cream is one of the many delicacies of Tuscany enjoyed not only in the summer, but all year around, ice cream is an Italian invention, and Tuscany, in keeping with tradition, has a huge amount of ice cream parlours.

Ice cream has been a delicacy here for many centuries and there are many ice cream makers who do all they can to promote it, because not only does it taste good but Italians believe that it is actually healthy for you!

In the old days street vendors with tricycle stalls sold ice cream.

They would carry 2 or 3 flavours in metal containers. You can still see modernised versions around the streets, that brings out the old tricycles for special events.

Go ahead and skip the dessert at dinner, and take a walk to one of the fabulous gelaterie (ice cream parlours).

Ice cream in hand, stroll through the city, sit by the river or choose a bench in a beautiful square and admire the view and experience two wonders simultaneously.

You can have your ice cream in a cono (cone) or in a bicchierino or coppetta (paper cup). Depending on the size you can choose 2 or more flavours...don’t be afraid experiment with your own unique combination!
