Cutlers have been working in Scarperia for at least 5 centuries, a tradition which originated with the armourers who worked in a wider area of the region.

Until the 18th century in Scarperia there were several an enormous quantity of blades both for military (daggers, lances and swords) and civil or domestic use (forks, awls, billhooks, shears and pocket knives).

Today in Scarperia there are only a few knife-making companies still producing a great range of blades.
